The Reliquary

Black Rose Reliquary is an art practice devoted to the creation of one of one reliquaries using ethically sourced animal remains and forest materials. Each piece is assembled by hand and allowed to take form through material, balance, and time.

The Practice

Each reliquary begins with the materials themselves. Bones, wood, moss, botanicals, and found elements are selected for their character and history, then assembled slowly by hand. No molds are used. No designs are replicated. The process is intuitive rather than prescriptive, allowing each work to arrive at its own form.

Ethical Sourcing

All animal remains used in this work are ethically sourced. No animals are harmed for the creation of these pieces. Materials are obtained through natural death, found remains, or legal and responsible sources, and are handled with care and respect throughout the process.

Meaning and Intention

These works explore impermanence, protection, and the relationship between nature and form. They are not decorative reproductions, but singular objects created with intention. Each reliquary is meant to be lived with slowly, encountered over time, and held as a presence rather than a statement.

The Maker

Black Rose Reliquary is created by Tiffany Stallins, an artist whose relationship with animal remains is shaped by more than two decades of working closely with animals. For over fifteen years, she worked as a veterinary technician, where daily proximity to care, illness, and death fostered a deep familiarity with mortality and the many ways it is understood, feared, and honored.

That experience informs her artistic practice quietly but fundamentally. Rather than viewing death as rupture or loss alone, Tiffany approaches it as part of a larger natural continuity. The remains she works with are treated not as symbols, but as presences, carrying history, function, and form beyond life.

Her work emerges from this perspective, guided by respect, restraint, and an attentiveness to what endures. Each reliquary is assembled slowly, allowing material, balance, and intention to determine its final form.
